Product Description

Product Description

Product Name: Samarium(III) nitrate hexahydrate
Formula: Sm(NO3)3.6H2O
CAS No.: 13759-83-6
Molecular Weight: 444.466
Appearance: Yellow crystalline
Solubility: Soluble in water, moderately soluble in strong mineral acids
Stability: Slightly hygroscopic

Properties
Physical Properties: Samarium nitrate hexahydrate is a pale - yellow crystal. It is highly soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is acidic. It is also soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and is deliquescent.
Chemical Properties: It has the general properties of nitrates. It decomposes when heated to form samarium oxide, nitrogen oxides, and oxygen. It can react with alkalis to form samarium hydroxide precipitate and can undergo complexation reactions with some organic reagents.

Production Process
Usually, it is prepared by reacting samarium oxide with nitric acid. The reaction equation is:
Sm2O3+6HNO3+3H2O=2Sm(NO3) 3 ⋅6H2O.
Samarium oxide is added to an appropriate amount of nitric acid solution, and the reaction is carried out under certain temperature and stirring conditions to fully dissolve samarium oxide. After the reaction is completed, through processes such as evaporation and concentration, cooling and crystallization, filtration, and drying, the samarium nitrate product is obtained.

Application Areas
Catalysis: It is used as a catalyst or catalyst component in some chemical reaction processes, which can improve the reaction rate and selectivity. For example, it has applications in the cracking reaction of hydrocarbons.
Optical Materials: It is used in the preparation of some optical glasses and phosphors. It can improve the optical properties of materials and is used in the fields of lighting and display.
Magnetic Materials: It is involved in the research and development of some magnetic materials and helps to adjust the magnetic properties of materials.
Nuclear Industry: Samarium has certain applications in the nuclear industry. Samarium nitrate can be used as a raw material for the preparation of some nuclear - related materials.

Packaging and Storage
Packaging: Usually, it is packed in sealed plastic buckets or iron buckets with inner plastic bags to prevent the product from absorbing moisture in the air and deliquescing.
Storage: It should be stored in a cool, dry, and well - ventilated warehouse, away from fire sources and heat sources. Avoid mixing with flammable substances, reducing agents, acids, and other substances to prevent redox reactions or other dangerous reactions. At the same time, pay attention to moisture - proof and regularly check whether the packaging is intact to ensure the product quality.
