Basic Information
Chemical Formula: Dy(NO3)3, and the common hydrated form is hexahydrate Dy(NO3)3⋅6H2O.
Appearance: Yellow or light-yellow crystals.
CAS No. : 10143-38-1.:35725-30-5
Molecular Weight: For the hexahydrate, it is 588.71.
Melting Point: 88.6ºC.
Solubility: Soluble in cold water, ethanol, acetone, gasoline, etc.
Stability: It will decompose under strong heat. When storing and handling, high temperatures and contact with organic substances and combustibles should be avoided to prevent chemical reactions or fires.

Production Process
The dysprosium oxide Dy2O3 is calcined at 800ºC for 2 hours and then dissolved in 1:1 dilute nitric acid. The water-bath temperature is controlled at 60-70 ºC, and the pH of the final reaction solution is controlled at 3 - 4. The filtrate after suction filtration is concentrated under reduced pressure to a viscous state, slowly crystallized at room temperature, and then recrystallized twice. Finally, it is dehydrated to a constant weight in a  sulfuric acid atmosphere to obtain light - yellow needle - like Dy(NO3)3⋅6H2O crystals.

Application Areas
Material Preparation: It is used to prepare other dysprosium compounds, such as dysprosium peroxycarbonate, and can also be used to manufacture dysprosium - iron compounds, etc.
Optical Field: Dysprosium ions have a unique electronic structure and can emit white light under appropriate conditions. Dysprosium - doped luminescent materials are likely to be used as two - primary - color inorganic phosphors. They are also used in metal - halide lamps, magneto - optical memory materials, yttrium - iron or yttrium - aluminum garnets, etc.
Glass Industry: It can be used as an additive in the manufacture of special glasses to improve the optical and physical properties of glasses.
Catalyst Field: It can be used to prepare certain catalysts for use in chemical reactions such as organic synthesis.
