Production Process
The dysprosium oxide Dy2O3 is calcined at 800ºC for 2 hours and then dissolved in 1:1 dilute nitric acid. The water-bath temperature is controlled at 60-70 ºC, and the pH of the final reaction solution is controlled at 3 - 4. The filtrate after suction filtration is concentrated under reduced pressure to a viscous state, slowly crystallized at room temperature, and then recrystallized twice. Finally, it is dehydrated to a constant weight in a sulfuric acid atmosphere to obtain light - yellow needle - like Dy(NO3)3⋅6H2O crystals.
Application Areas
Material Preparation: It is used to prepare other dysprosium compounds, such as dysprosium peroxycarbonate, and can also be used to manufacture dysprosium - iron compounds, etc.
Optical Field: Dysprosium ions have a unique electronic structure and can emit white light under appropriate conditions. Dysprosium - doped luminescent materials are likely to be used as two - primary - color inorganic phosphors.
