Found in various plants, including strawberries, storax balm, benzoin balm, tea leaves, laurel leaf oil, Peru balsam, and cinnamon oil.
Applications
Food Flavoring: Approved as a temporarily permitted food flavoring by China's GB 2760-1996 standard. Mainly used to formulate nut-type (e.g., peach, apricot, plum, watermelon, strawberry, walnut, hazelnut) flavorings.
Fragrance Synthesis: Used in synthesizing fragrances. Its ester derivatives serve as components in floral scents (e.g., lilac, hyacinth, lily of the valley).
Pharmaceutical Synthesis: Acts as an intermediate for the central skeletal muscle relaxant "qiangjinsong" in the pharmaceutical industry. Also applicable for treating cholecystitis, cholangitis, cholelithiasis, post-biliary surgery syndrome, and hypercholesterolemia.
Cosmetics: Functions as a preservative in cosmetics. When combined with piperonal or pepper, it exhibits antibacterial effects while imparting a natural fragrance to products.
